Register for the Civic Action Academy

The 2023 Civic Action Academy will be held on November 10-11 in Grinnell, IA at Grinnell College. This professional development opportunity will bring students from Iowa and Minnesota together to learn new ways of making a difference and building skills through civic and community engagement. Sessions will offer skill-building in civic action including leadership, dialogue, advocacy, and more. Students will also have a chance to learn what others are doing on other campuses and network with peers.

Dr. Tania D. Mitchell and Dr. Kesho Scott as our keynote speakers for the 2023 Civic Action Academy. They will also provide workshops for faculty and staff on Saturday, November 11 as part of the Civic Engagement Mini-Summit. Students are invited to arrive early and participate in a pre-conference opportunity on Friday afternoon. This workshop will be facilitated by Shannon Stober, a nationally recognized trainer and facilitator with expertise in leadership, community building, and volunteerism. Themes for this workshop include effective communication and strengths-based leadership styles. The student leader workshop will be an additional cost to the conference ($20 per ticket). Event registration is $30/student for IAMNCC member campuses. Those from non-member campuses can register for $80/student. 

Friday, November 10

• • 12:00-3:30 –  Student Leadership Retreat Pre-Conference + lunch
    (open to any interested students, additional cost of $20 per ticket)
  • 3:30 – Registration and check-in for Civic Action Academy
  • 4:00 – Welcome from Rob Barron, Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact Executive Director, and Dr. Anne Harris, Grinnell College President
  • 4:30 – Dinner and opening keynote with Dr. Kesho Scott
  • 5:30-6:15 – Affinity Groups meet and greet

Saturday, November 11

Civic Action Academy (student track)

• • 9:00 – Light breakfast
  • 9:30 – Session 1
  • 10:45 – Session 2
  • 12:00 – Lunch
  • 1:30 – Session 3
  • 3:00 – Closing keynote + student panel with Dr. Tania Mitchell
  • 4:15 – Conference closing

There are currently two room blocks reserved at AmericInn and CountryInn in Grinnell, IA. When making your reservation please mention it’s for the Civic Action Academy.
